Tallinna Keskraamatukogu, Tallinn

October 2017
Tallinna Keskraamatukogu (Tallinn Central Library) is situated in a historical building which is not originally designed to be a library. This causes some problems for organizing the services and collections but also for access for physically disabled. These customers are advised to visit the library with an accompanying person. The literature and magazines in other languages than Estonian are in separate premises in the Department of Literature in Foreign Languages. The explanation to that could today be the lack of space in the main building. But this might even be a leftover from the socialist period when it was normal to locate the foreign collections separately. The newspaper reading room is in the same building but with a separate entrance as well as a restaurant. This restaurant in the basement is really an interesting and nice surprise with a literary setting: author portraits and books. THREE stars: Good.
