Tallinna Keskraamatukogud

  • August 2026

Tallinna Keskraamatukogud (Tallinn Central Library) is located in a historic building that was not originally designed as a library. Although centrally situated, the premises are too small to accommodate all the functions expected of a central library. For example, the Innovation Lab and foreign-language literature collections are housed in other branches. The library remains very traditional and book-focused, with limited seating. It includes a separate music department, study room and children’s department. Some changes have been made since the previous evaluation in 2017. Unfortunately, the cosy literary-themed restaurant, decorated with author portraits and books, has closed. However, a separate entrance is being renovated to improve access for people with reduced mobility. Other recent additions include self-service returns and an outdoor pickup box for reserved books. TWO stars: Acceptable.
