  • Library rating

Kirkkonummi (in Swedish Kyrkslätt) is a rural municipality in Southern Finland, rather close to the capital Helsinki. 40 000 inhabitants. The new library building opened in 2020. It is named Fyyri and it is built around the old main library, which opened in 1982. With its copper shingle cladding and radical exterior solutions this is a real landmark building. It is situated very centrally next to commercial areas and the medieval church. Fyyri hosts not only  library activities but also a youth club, a music school for children, a resident´s park, an exhibition area and a café.  In addition to traditional library services Fyyri offers a makerspace area, a music studio and gaming and meeting rooms. The collection of books and other materials in this bilingual municipality with the Finnish and Swedish languages is of high quality and versatile. FIVE stars: Excellent.
