Bibliothèque de la Cité is situated in the old town (Vieille-Ville) of Genève. The location is close to the commercial centre of the city and at the same time hidden and descrete at a small square very close.  The building is fascinating with a low and a high part and two entrances on opposite sides. This is a colourful library. The colour scheme has consistently been used in a pedagogical and aesthetic way in the design of the interior. The colours are indicating different floors and theme areas. The collection is really imposing both in the variety of the content and also in the variety of media forms. In this library sleeping is accepted! As a matter of fact there is a special place to take a nap. The use of the library is free but to apply for the library card you must live within the cantons of Genève or of Vaud. This means an extensive limitation to become a borrower. FOUR stars: Very good
