Wojewódzka Biblioteka Publiczna w Krakowie, Kraków

  • March 2019

Kraków´s biggest public library, Wojewódzka Biblioteka Publiczna w Krakowie, is situated at the street Rajska close to the Old Town. The library is located in a huge historical military building, well-known in Krakow. It was very difficult to renovate it for the use as a proper modern public library. The structure of the building consists of long corridors and logements. The interior of the library is very traditional and it is characterized by shelves and books. The collection is large and comprehensive but to big parts worn-out. The corridors are popular reading and working places – probably because of internet which functions there but not in other premises. The opening hours are quite generous and the services are free of charge. There are special departments for children and for youth and a separate computer room. To be able to use the reading room with magazines you have to possess a library card. There is a café in the building. Two stars: Acceptable.
