Hämeenlinnan kaupunginkirjasto

  • July 2022

Hämeenlinnan kaupunginkirjasto (Hämeenlinna City Library) has a great location by the shore of Lake Vanajavesi.  The view towards the medieval Häme castle is imposing and the building is surrounded by parks. Hämeenlinna is the birthplace of the composer Jean Sibelius. The library was opened in these premises in 1983 and has recently been renovated and modernized. There are two entrances into the library but when using the main entrance there are stairs downwards. This design offers a good overview of the library premises but is not very practical. The collection of sheet music is especially large. A good solution is to have a part of the book collection in an open stock. With its location, long opening hours, its versatile collection of media and variety of services and programs this library is of high quality. FIVE stars: Excellent
