Haapsalu Raamatukogu, Haapsalu

  • August 2015

Haapsalu is a town with about 11 000 inhabitants. It is a well-known holiday resort since late 19th century and so even today. The Estonian born children´s books illustrator Ilon Wikland, famous for example as the illustrator of Astrid Lindgren´s books has her museum Ilon´s Wonderland here. Haapsalu Raamatukogu (The Haapsalu Library) is situated in a big culture centre. The children´s department has separate premises, however. This solution seems to be a leftover from the history. The library is very traditional with its card catalogues and collections. The reading room with magazines and computers gives a more modern impression. And like all over in Estonia there is a free wifi. ONE star: Poor.
