De Nieuwe Bibliotheek, Almere

  • January 2015

The young city of Almere was established in the year 1976 and it is growing fast. De Nieuwe Bibliotheek (The New Library) was opened in 2010 and replaced the earlier library from the founding year of the municipality. The library is a real landmark building in the very city centre. The interior is even more interesting and exciting than the exterior. The design is based on the shop and retail concept. The space is organized according to different life-styles like culture, health, travel, youth. The collection is frontally presented as in bookshops. It looks good and tempting but can cause problems to find a certain book. The news café is especially successful. There are rather high fees for users. FIVE stars: Excellent.
