Borlänge is a town of 51 000 inhabitants in the region of Dalarna, Sweden. It is an industrial place with big steel factories and paper mills. Borlänge bibliotek (Borlänge city library) is situated centrally at Sveatorget (the Svea Square). The library building is from 1930 and it was originally built for a department store and shops. It was rebuilt for library use in 1972-73. The building represents functionalism, and the walls are covered with black and white plates of steel. The interior of the library is characterized by the cupola, a high open area in the middle of the spacious premises. There are many immigrant groups among the inhabitants which is reflected in the book collection with lots of different languages. An outdoor area, a patio, towards the square is a nice extra during the summertime. The area with magazines has too few seats. The newspaper section close to the main entrance is too small and poorly furnished. FOUR stars: Very good
