Umeå is a university town and centre of education, technical and medical research in northern Sweden, with two universities and totally more than 36,000 enrolled students. The municipality is situated on the eastern coast of Sweden, 600 kilometers north of Stockholm. The city has a population of 130 000 inhabitants. In 2014 Umeå was European Capital of Culture. In the same year  the Cultural Centre named Väven (Fabric) was opened. Väven is a landmark building in the city centre at Ume river. It became a new home for Umeå stadsbibliotek (Umeå City Library) and houses a children’s cultural centre in addition to theatres, studios, cinema, Women’s History Museum, as well two hotels and conference suites. Library premises, about 5 000 square meters, are located in three floors. Several entrances from different directions make it is easy to reach the library. There are  lot of various seating and working areas, some of them with a beautiful view, overlooking the river. The collection of various medias (books, newspapers, magazines, music and DVD) is versatile and well exposed. This is a library where you like to stay, it is both spacious and cosy . A ticket box for cultural events, a flower shop, Kulturbageriet (a bakery) and a cafe and a restaurant close to the library main entrance complete the inviting atmosphere.  FIVE stars: Excellent.
