Stadtbibliothek Wittenberg, Lutherstadt Wittenberg

  • April 2024

The name of this town indicates what it is best known for. It was here Martin Luther in 1517 posted his Ninety-five Theses on the door of the Castle Church and started the Reformation. Today Wittenberg of about 46 000 inhabitants is an industrial centre and a popular tourist destination. Stadtbibliothek Wittenberg (Wittenberg City Library) has a discreet location on one of the main streets in the old town. On the other hand, big windows are like showcases towards the street and enhance the attraction of the library for passers-by. The premises have recently been renovated but are a little bit conventional. There is also a new annex with a little garden. This is a modern library in a small scale with versatile services like a makerspace. The book collection is up to date but mostly only in German. THREE stars: Good
